[{"text":"A heavily requested update for the DCDB cube variant has been support for a 2v2 format, in addition to our current free-for-all (FFA) mode. To that end, we're happy to announce that we now have a rules set to support 2v2 play!"},{"header":"2v2 cube"},{"text":"While the overall gameplay is similar to FFA, this article will explain some of the differences that make 2v2 stand out from FFA."},{"header":"2v2 team format"},{"list":[{"listType":"bullet"},{"caption":"Teammates are cooperating to defeat their opponents"},{"caption":"Teammates can show each other cards in hidden zones (i.e. their hand, or if they are allowed to look at card(s) on top of their deck, etc)"},{"caption":"Play proceeds clockwise as normal, and alternates between the two teams"},{"caption":"The time limit is 70 minutes per round (instead of the typical 60 for FAA matches)"}]},{"header":"drafting"},{"text":"After randomly determining which team has the option to play or draft, the team that drafts first chooses a player on their team to begin the draft. The draft then proceeds counter-clockwise as normal until complete. After the draft, and before looking at their opening hand, the team playing first announces which player on their team will begin the game. All players may then resolve a mulligan, and play begins as normal."},{"header":"effects that reference a 'player'"},{"text":"When a card or Main Character references a player, players may choose either player on their team. You are not allowed to choose an opponent for these effects."},{"double":[{"src":"cap24373captain-.jpeg"},{"src":"con169254construc.jpg"}]},{"text":"Example: Captain Atom can put the gained card into your hand, or your teammates hand. Likewise, Constructs can make you draw 2 cards or your teammate."},{"double":[{"src":"bat824852batgirl-.jpeg"},{"src":"cir28910circe-mc.jpg"}]},{"text":"Example: When discarding a 1-vp card with Crisis Batgirl, you can have either player on your team draw a card. When discarding a 2+ vp card with her, you can have both players on your team draw a card. Likewise, Circe can stack Villains on top of you or your teammates deck."},{"header":"Attacking"},{"text":"When a player attacks an opponent, they must announce which player on the opposing team they are attacking, and only that player will be affected by the attack if it is not avoided. This is for all attacks, whether they say choose a player or that they target all foes. (Think of this as the inverse of the FFA rule where every Attack hits all foes; in 2v2, attacks only hits one foe.)<br><br>Supervillain FAA Attacks are handled the same as FAA, where they hit each player in turn order."},{"header":"avoiding an attack"},{"text":"As a special 2v2 game action, a player may discard a Defense or Block card from their hand, or in play, to have their teammate Avoid an Attack. You discard Bulletproof from your hand (and trigger any effects from having done so) and your teammate avoids the attack (and triggers any effects from having done so). The defense "reward" that Bulletproof typically provides to draw a card and destroy a card has no effect."}]},{"list":[{"listType":"bullet"},{"caption":"Your teammate is being attacked and you choose to take a special game action to discard Jaime Reyes from your hand to have them avoid the attack. You discard Jaime from your hand (and trigger any effects from having done so) and your teammate avoids the attack (and triggers any effects from having done so). The defense "reward" that Jaime typically provides to be placed into your play area has no effect."}]},{"list":[{"listType":"bullet"},{"caption":"You are attacked, and put Jaime Reyes into play from your hand to Defend it. Before your next turn, your teammate is attacked and you choose to discard Jaime from play to have them avoid the attack."}]},{"header":"unity cards"},{"double":[{"src":"bio850507biometri.jpeg"},{"src":"ome340225omen-cri.jpeg"}]},{"text":"The Unity card effect triggers for each Unity card in play for either player on your team.<br><br>A player has Biometric Exo-Suit in play when their teammate plays Omen. Playing Omen triggers both Unity effects, resulting in the player receiving one power and having the option to destroy a card."},{"header":"assist cards"},{"double":[{"src":"ani105122animal-m.jpeg"},{"src":"doo828361doomsday.jpeg"}]},{"text":"As a special 2v2 game action, an Assist card in your hand may be played during your teammates turn. Doing so causes the card to go from your hand to their play zone, and it's as if they played the card from their own hand. They receive all effects from having played the card, and at the end of the turn cleanup step the card goes to your discard pile."},{"header":"determining a winner"},{"text":"At the conclusion of the match each player computes their VP, and then teammates add both values together to determine their teams combined VP. Once both teams have computed their combined VP score, the winning team is the team with the most VP, with tiebreakers being the same as FAA (so the first tiebreaker is the team with the most defeated SVs, then most recent SV, with the final tiebreaker being the team which played last).<br><br>For 2v2, there is only a winning team and a losing team, so there is no need to determine which player got first, second and so forth.<br><br>Note: Teammates should not combine decks when counting VP. This is because of Power Rings, etc that can change in value from doing so."},{"header":"2v2 format structure"},{"text":"2v2 events are handled differently than FAA events. For 2v2, each match is treated as-if it were a 1v1 match in a typical swiss tournament for chess, pokemon, magic, etc, with teams competing against one another and a clear winner and loser being determined each round.
