Hey everyone, Atmoz here again! With New Gods having been released, and with the recent updating of the characters tiers, I wanted to bring you my new favorite team-up featuring one of the New Gods MC’s.
First let’s take a look at Darkseid. Darkseid let’s us destroy a costing one or greater card in our hand or discard pile for +2 and a draw. Typically you’re going to want to destroy something in your discard pile to keep as many cards in your hand as possible for your turn. If there’s nothing in your discard pile worthy of being destroyed, you can always try to buy something cheap to destroy for the +2 power and a draw. My general rule of thumb when deciding what to destroy is if it doesn’t produce more than 2 power, doesn't destroy cards, or doesn't draw me any cards, it can be destroyed. This is because you’ll get more value from destroying it right now than you would if you waited to draw it again. There are obviously exceptions, but I’ll leave those up to your personal judgment.

Bizarro has an ability that makes you gain a weakness when you destroy a card. Its mostly his second ability which makes him so strong: you can return two weaknesses from your discard pile to the weakness stack to draw a card. So when you destroy a card with Darkseid, you gain a Weakness, and suddenly you’re halfway to being able to draw a card with Bizarro.

Kid Flash is the last member of the team, and his ability is pretty simple. When you gain a card you can add a card to the Lineup. This can be anything from someone making you gain a Weakness, from a card gaining you a card, from you buying a card, or even from Bizarro giving you a Weakness when you destroy a card. This ability is important because you're going to want to flood the Lineup with as many cards as possible. You do this because you are digging through the main deck looking for any card that says destroy on it, any card that draw you cards and for any VP manipulating cards.
How to Approach the Game?
Now that you’re more familiar with what these character do, let talk about the game plan.

Contrary to popular belief, this isn’t a Darkseid focused Team. The real star of this team is Bizarro. Not only does Bizarro act as a shield from any cards that gives you Weaknesses, but he’s essentially a draw engine for this team. All it takes to trigger his draw ability is for you to be able to destroy something reliably. Darkseid already gets you halfway there every turn, so all you need is any other means of destroying a card. That can be something as simple as Dark Portal, Silkie, Nth Metal, or even anything that destroys a card in the Lineup like Sonic Siren. There’s so many ways in the main deck to trigger this ability of Bizarro that it’s nearly impossible to completely whiff on one after the first few turns of the game. Especially since every time you’re going to be using Darkseid’s ability during your turn, you’re going to be gaining a Weakness, and therefore flipping a new card into the lineup with Kid Flash’s ability.
Once you have a card or two that lets you destroy a card, the goal is simple: farm VP. You want to continue to destroy cards and flip new cards into the Lineup with Kid Flash every chance you get so that you can flip and buy any impactful cards on your turn. Eventually the Lineup will get so massive that cards will never flip until you want them to, because you opponents can't buy them fast enough on their turns. This will leave your opponents in an awkward situation where the Lineup is so stagnant that they don’t even want any of the cards from it because you’re too busy buying any good ones that flip on your turn. However; be careful of gaining too many Weakness from cards like Reconstruction or Owlship. If you gain too many at once from destroying so many cards with them, you’ll have to shuffle a bunch of Weaknesses into your deck. In situations where that’s an issue, it’s best to calculate how many Weaknesses you can afford to gain. For instance, if you have 4 cards left in your deck, you can afford to gain 10x Weaknesses from destroying cards, so that you will draw a total of 5 cards (drawing the 4 cards left in your deck, plus removing the last two Weaknesses in your discard pile and then shuffling and drawing the 5th). To prevent gaining too many Weaknesses than you can return with Bizarro, you can buy cards from the Lineup and choose not to use Kid Flash’s ability to reduce the amount of cards a card like Reconstruction would destroy, or you can simply not play Reconstruction that turn if the Lineup is to big this turn. These cards will trigger at least one draw from Bizarro, and add at least two cards to the Lineup with Kid Flash.
Other cards to keep an eye out for are any 1 cost cards. They’re an easy buy to trigger Kid Flash, and then you net free power and a draw from Darkseid.
This team is good because it fuels itself. It’s easy to find any destruction cards because of Kid Flash, and Darkseid will destroy a card for you once every turn. This team will draw you lots of cards, allowing you to see your best cards more often than your opponents, it will let you flip good cards in the Lineup before your opponents get a chance to buy them, it has early ramp with Darkseid to help buy power cards before others can afford them, and it can easily hate draft any thematic strategy by buying the cards they want and then destroying them with Darkseid.
What if you get hate drafted?
If you draft Bizarro first and someone takes Kid Flash so be it. Kid Flash is only really good when used in conjunction with Bizarro, so they should be disadvantaged in the game more than you. You’ll be able to draft a better team with Bizarro than they can with Kid Flash. In the event this happens, my next favorite team with Bizarro is Kalibak/Black Lightning/Bizarro. Bizarro isn’t as crucial to that team, but he does act as as security blanket, and can occasionally net you some free draws. This is more-so a worst case scenario than someone taking Kid Flash. Deathstroke is another popular pair with Darkseid, and this signals that Darkseid will not be available for you to draft at all. In that situation, you’re probably best off taking The Joker and another tier-2 MC like Comedian or Chameleon Boy.
In strange cases it might be better to waste a tier point and take Bane or Black Adam (only spending 5 points on your team) if someone has already taken Booster Gold and appears that they will be on a defensive team that may stand up well against Joker.
That's all I got for now, see you next time.
