Hello everybody! I'm here to discuss one of Cryptozoic Entertainment's latest and most fun DC Deck Building sets, Teen Titans Go!
You can feel safe that in my review, I will be brutally honest. I'll tell you what's bad and what's good without pulling any punches. While I will primarily focus on it's value for competitive play, I'll briefly go over the set's benefits for casual play as well.

First, let's take a look at the main characters:
The set comes with 5 Main Characters. Kid Flash is only in the First Edition prints of the Teen Titans Go! game, so 6 if you are lucky.

Overall, none the Main Characters are going to make a huge impact on the game. They are all mid-to-low power level at best. This is primarily because most of them require you to have two of a certain card in play. However, there are some interesting interactions you can do with them that I will go over later in the review.

About The Set
Teen Titans Go! is an extremely fun set. It's unpredictable and goofy. It's a ray of sunshine that lightens up a frequently brutal DC Deck Building Game full of attacks and weaknesses. I think this set does an excellent job of blending fun cards without going too far (as it's predecessor the Cartoon Network Deck Building Game flirted with the line).

The art style of these cards are over-the-top animated. They breathe a breath of fresh air into the game as you see these cards blend into the line-up with much fancier art styles. Sometimes, they can't help but to make you laugh.

Take a look at some of these cards:
Look at that buff Robin! Also, high 5'ing foes! Who doesn't love that. The game also includes hilarious looking starters. Let's look at how it plays:
For Casual Play
From a casual perspective, the game is great. You will be able to play a quick game, have some laughs, and have a good time. One downside is that the game mode only supports two players in a 1v1 game.

You have the ability to recruit Sidekicks in this game mode, which should cause for some fun interactions. Each Main Character can flip over to a sidekick version. This sidekick ability is not legal in competitive play, but does create a unique way to play for casual gaming.

Also worth noting, that, like the Cartoon network DC Building Game, there are different types of Weaknesses. There are also no Vulnerabilities or Kicks. There are, however, equivalent cards for the 1v1 game mode so you are left with a balanced play experience.
For Competitive Play
From a competitive play experience, we were worried about his set. We had seen the cartoon network game and felt it might not translate well.

If you are unfamiliar with the competitive game mode we are referring to, it's the tournament style play that involves every set made, a ban list, and Main Character drafting rules. You can find the rules for that here:
http://www.dcdeckbuilding.com/x.php?id=9447

This set will give you 49 cards to add to the tournament cube, broken down as follows:
- 35 unique main deck cards; The set contains no duplicates here
- 5 Main Characters, 6 Counting the Kid Flash first print promo
- 8 Super Villains
(The remaining 36 cards are banned for tournament play.)

There is a size-able amount of banned cards that come from this set, because it was mostly intended for 1v1 play therefore many of the cards don't work well in a multiplayer game setting. Additionally, the game was intended to only be played with the Main Characters that come with the set. Many cards refer to "if you control Cyborg" or "if you control Beast Boy." There is a cycle of cards like that, covering all of the Main Characters included with the game. Many of those didn't transfer over well to competitive play.

You should also note that the set doesn't include a single card with cost greater than five, and there are only a handful of those! In fact, this set has more 1 and 2 costing cards than any other set. Because of this set (and a few others) we have actually had to modify the ban list policies. You can find that here:
http://www.dcdeckbuilding.com/x.php?id=10767

Let's take a look at what some of the best cards are:

All of those cards are outstanding for tournament play! It's unclear which of them is the best, but they are all powerhouse cards when played in the cube. Killer Moth is especially under-costed, but each of the other three can get you far ahead in the game at an early point.

If you haven't noticed from the Miss Martian card, they have a cycle of cards made for all the Young Justice characters that appeared in Teen Titans Go briefly. They stand out as their art was more serious than the others.
bea753261beast-bo.jpg
Beast boy is the most noticeable of the Main Characters, yet not powerful enough to have a higher tier ranking than the others. All of the Main Characters from this set are currently ranked Tier 2. The exception is the first print promo, Kid Flash, is who ranked Tier 1. Kid Flash is almost an identical remake of the older Kid Flash (from the Teen Titans set) who is also ranked Tier 1. In fact, he is a worse version because he does not trigger from gaining a Weakness. So it's fair to say Kid Flash is not very good.

As for Beast Boy, he has a lot of potential. He can be used with several Kick strategies as an enabler. An example of a good team up would be Aquaman, Dr. Manhattan, and Beast Boy. This would allow you to buy kicks every turn and trigger Dr. Manhattan as quick as turn 3. While simultaneously getting through your starters very quickly. This combo is refered to as: "All-in Kicks."

There are several good Kick strategies in the game with card like Black Adam or even Bane. You can find at least 10 or so Main Characters that have a Super Power theme. Beast Boy provides a relevant choice to pair with those combinations.

As far as the other Main Characters go, they are not the best. That said, they are too powerful to be ranked at Tier 1. They add power, draw cards, and are just strong enough to avoid a Tier 1 rating. However, they are good enough to pair with the odd team here and there and hold your own against a top tier team if you are playing optimally.

In fact, the most fun team up out of the new set might be the pairing of all three Main Character Starfires! A.k.a: "Tristar". A.k.a: "Hot Constellation
Overall, I would recommend picking up Teen Titans Go! It's relatively cheap, near the price of a crossover set (at this time it's $15 - $20), and it adds a bunch of fun new cards to your game. And for sure, with that artwork, they will be hard to forget!
