Hello! I’m ThePurplePancake, and I’m a huge fan of Crossover 6: Birds of Prey.

Crossover 6 introduced the rotation mechanic, and it can add a lot of cool interactions to casual play when used on its own. However, it is much harder to utilize for competitive play. For one, the rotation mechanic is not usable outside of the small number of cards introduced in this set. While other Crossover sets suffer from this, Crossover 6 suffers especially because of how valuable the mechanic is when the set is used on its own, so most of the main deck cards are overpriced. Because of this, the cards have been banned due to lack of use, and this causes most of the Main Characters from this set to be indirectly nerfed.

Hence, Crossover 6 has the lowest total tier points for all of the Main Characters out of any set in the game so far. Even with the low tiering of the Main Characters opening up a lot of possible strategies, none of them see much play outside of fringe cases and certain type specific strategies. Many people just put the entire set off as a big failure for competitive, but I haven’t. In fact, I’ve found a strong combo that uses two Main Characters from this set. I call it BatCat.
Catwoman is probably the best stand-alone Main Character from Crossover 6 hence her current status at Tier 2. Her ability to gain a free card if you have a hand full of Villains or a good amount of Ongoing cards is nothing to scoff at. When used in combination with Swamp Thing, you can easily control 4 rotated cards if enough Locations show up. However, she suffers from being very slow even with his help, so instead I looked for another teammate to help speed her up.

Batwoman, in contrast to Catwoman, is one of the worst Main Characters from Crossover 6 when used in isolation. With just the main deck, you will rarely be able to rotate cards since so many Crossover 6 cards are banned in the competitive cube. However, teaming her up with Catwoman leads to some strong plays. Catwoman can easily rotate multiple cards per turn which can make multiple types of cards cheaper when combined with Batwoman. This not only adds some much needed speed to Catwoman by allowing you to potentially buy multiple cheap Villains early in the game, but you can also get some other powerful cards much sooner. Combining them with other Main Characters that give cost reduction can get you some super powerful cards as early as turn 3, and with 3 tier points left to work with, there are a couple of strong ones to choose from.
Since Comedian is tier 2, you still have 1 tier point to work with, and you have a couple of strong choices in this regard. My personal favorite tier 1 is Huntress, to get even more rotations in when playing attack cards. It makes your opponents think twice about defending, because Huntress can get you that extra rotation needed to get Catwoman off or make a new card type reduced cost with Batwoman.

Black Manta is also a solid option as he can stack Villains you buy on the bottom of your deck, and you’re hoping to buy a lot of them with the cost reduction you get from your other Main Characters.

The last option that can work is Kid Flash because you are able to buy multiple cheap cards if Attacks or the right card types enter the Line-Up after you buy a card.
The team-up that I’ve had the most success with is Green Arrow. Green Arrow focuses much more on the cost reduction part of the strategy, and clearing the whole Line-Up of Villains every turn with him is very feasible. With just a Villain and a Punch in your hand, all Villains in the Line-Up cost 3 less to buy. You can easily clear the Line-Up of Villains and still have power leftover to buy other strong cards.

This combination is much stronger early in the game, and with being so focused on Villains, you can still easily hit with Catwoman when the game goes long. Unfortunately, if the Line-Up is devoid of villains from the beginning, you’ll probably have a hard time finding strong plays to make.
Getting hate drafted is one of the worst feelings in competitive DCDB, but this strategy is particularly vulnerable to it. Getting Comedian or Green Arrow picked away from you can feel really bad since they are probably the two best Characters to go with. Fortunately, there are many Main Characters that still stick to the theme of the combo fairly well even though they are weaker in my eyes. Lightning Lad and Wonder Woman are two that stick out and that I’ve tested before with decent success. Just keep a lookout for Characters that mention Villains and enable you to play as many of them as possible.

Obviously with this strategy you want to focus on buying Villains whenever you can. They are the core to making everything cheap for you, and with enough of them you can get cards for free. However, there are some other cards you need to keep an eye on, so if the Line-Up is clear of Villains, watch out for these types of cards to help facilitate your plays.
Even though you can rotate any card you control, Ongoing cards are much stronger to rotate since they don’t get discarded at the end of your turn. Because of this, they stay out for future cost reduction with Batwoman, and remain to count toward Catwoman’s effect to get you closer to gaining a card for free.

Ongoing cards are almost as important as picking up more Villains, so if you have the power to buy them, its usually always right to do so. Ongoing cards that don’t have to discard themselves in order to get their effects off are the best since you want to keep them out once they are rotated. Be on the lookout for Ongoing cards that can rotate themselves, that are Villains, and/or that have extra utility to make it easier to play Villains.
Draw cards are always very strong, and they will be hotly contested, but with this combo they tend to get more utility than normal. Playing a card and drawing into a Villain lets you rotate it to reduce the cost of that type of card with Batwoman. The draw card gets even better if it lets you draw multiples or is a Villain itself because you need as many Villains as possible to get Catwoman’s effect off as early and often as possible. If a Villain draw card shows up early, I highly recommend buying it over anything else. Even if your deck is full of starters, future Villains will cost less when you play it, and it will be a boon in the late game.
Playstyle
No matter which team-up you decide on, remember your goal is to buy as much of the Line-Up as possible and to gain a free cards every turn with Catwoman. Because of this, you almost never want to buy the Supervillain. The idea is to slow the game down as much as you can. Slow games mean that there are more Line-Ups to clear, allowing you to take full advantage of the cost reduction, and there will be more turns for you to gain free cards with Catwoman.

Unless you have no other choice, try to play your Villains last in sequence. Since you want to rotate as many different types as possible, and your Villains are how you rotate cards, playing them after you’ve played your other card types will let you more easily rotate what you want.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths:

•While you prefer having a deck full of Villains, you get enough utility from other types that it’s difficult to completely hate you out.
•Very strong grind game. If the game is slow enough, you can easily skyrocket ahead of everyone else.
•Cost reduction can get you some very strong cards really early in the game.
•Many Ongoing cards tend to sit in the Line-Up, so they can be easy pickups for you to rotate and get utility from, and if they are taken, your opponents are stuck with a lackluster card.
Weaknesses:

•If you get very few Villains and no Ongoing cards, Catwoman will be very hard for you to get off.
•Weaker early game. If the Super Villains get beaten before you can clear the Line-Up a few times or get Catwoman’s effect off, then you’re in trouble. Watch out for Bane and Killer Frost players that want to defeat Super Villains as fast as possible.
•While the late-game is where this combo shines, if you go too late, other combos will become even stronger. Watch out for Kid Flash, Shazam, and other Main Characters that are similarly strong in the late game.
•Easily counter drafted. Picking Batwoman as a tier 1 will show your strategy very early, so you can get hate drafted out of Catwoman, and while she’s not nearly as strong without Batwoman, there are still some other decent ways to facilitate getting Catwoman off, so they can get some use out of her while you’re left with a character that’s almost completely useless.

Conclusion
Crossover 6: Birds of Prey has always been a bit of a meme within the competitive DCDB community, but the synergy between Catwoman and Batwoman is strong enough to possibly bring it to the forefront. This combo is looking to get better in the future too. Crossover 7 is giving us Granny Goodness who’s another strong MC option and Crisis 4 will bring more Ongoing cards with it, so the next two releases will make this combo even stronger.

I’m excited to see what other people can pull off with BatCat!"}]
