Originally a tier 2, many combos were thoroughly play-tested that proved to create an unhealthy competitive environment. Especially the Main Character combo Beast Boy, Alan Scott, and Harley Quinn (which you can find the article here on our site: http:\/\/www.dcdeckbuilding.com\/x.php?id=10778).

This main character combo (as well as other Beast Boy variants) are far too consistent as they only revolve around the kick stack, and they don't require destroying any of your starters. Even after the changes, we expect the Main Character combination of Alan Scott and Beast Boy to see play.

Constantine has found a great interaction with Aquaman, and has proven to be problematic for the competitive environment as well. (You can find articles about this combination here: http:\/\/www.dcdeckbuilding.com\/x.php?id=10753)

The most problematic was using Constantine, Aquaman, Cheetah. With this combo, by buying a kick, placing it on top with Aquaman, then using Constantine to play the kick and getting +3 power you can essentially break even on the 3 you spent for the kick. This may seem useless at first, but when buying a kick and removing it for +3 you are usually able to trigger Cheetah every turn when you buy a second card. This lets you destroy your starters faster than any other Main Character combination. We opted to break up this combination by moving Constantine to a 2. You can still play Aquaman & Constantine together, but no longer with Cheetah.

Red Lantern Supergirl was also moved from tier 2 to tier 3. Through observing and testing Beast Boy, we learned the power of cycling, and have been eye-balling this character as a potential change for a while. In competitive play, destroying cards is rampant, and when mixed with 4 player tournament games, this character can be quite unhealthy. While paired with Harley Quinn, your card advantage can become too overwhelming for opponents. For example, if your three opponents each destroy a card, you trigger both Supergirl and Harley to cycle and draw each turn. This would allow you to start with an 8 card hand that has been perfectly sculpted, and was proving unhealthy for competitive play.

This combination also allowed you to play an additional tier 1 Main Character at the time. We decided to move Red Lantern Supergirl up a tier so that if you play her with Harley, you can no longer play an additional tier 1 Main Character. We fully expect this Main Character combination to continue to be a staple in competitive play.

Weather Wizard is another powerful Main Character that has been moved from tier 2 to tier 3. His teamwork ability, combined with his ability to constantly draw through your deck, made him one of the best tier 2 characters in the game. He was playable with many Main Character combinations and was often deemed, "the most playable tier 2 character" out of all of them. We believe his power level is such that he has earned his tier 3 status.

For the last Main Character change, White Lantern Deadman is being moved down a tier. In competitive DCDB, we are not trying to "nerf" any potential "good" combinations. We only want to change a character's tier if we believe that, by not doing so, the game would result in a unhealthy competitive environment. As the game changes and more sets are released, the competitive environment changes too. We believe White Lantern Deadman is no longer as effective as he was upon his original release. At his new tier level, Deadman will likely find several good Main Character combinations and we hope he will see competitive play.

Why where some cards unbanned?
Through surveying and play-testing, we had learned several mistakes in our latest ban list. In the "Ban List Explanation" article: http:\/\/www.dcdeckbuilding.com\/x.php?id=10767, we talk about how we are attempting to aggressively ban cards that players do not often buy, and thus preventing "stale" line-ups. Through analytics we found that more players would buy those cards than originally expected.

Why were there more banned cards from the Main Deck?
For the same reason as above. Through play-testing and analytics, we found that these cards were not bought as much as originally expected. We opt to ban any card that is near a "kick equivalent," as well as cards that are very over-costed as they force line-up stalls and grind games down to a halt. Regarding the Super Villains, we continue trying to remove cards that either slow the pace of the game, or are large costed SVs with weak FAA effects, as we feel the high cost SVs should be impactful on the game.

Thanks to the DCDB community for all of your continuous feedback. Expect consistent updates as we begin our tournament series in the upcoming months.

Also, note that we have made major updates to our "Advanced Rule Book," which you can find here: http:\/\/dcdeckbuilding.com\/rules\/. There are now details about General Rules, Set Specific Clarifications, the Tournament Structure, and Rules Infractions among other topics. The Advanced Rule Book is also a great resource to find any ruling on a specific card.
